It’s becoming pretty obvious, pretty fast that this blog thing is going to be more about the “life and stuff like that” aspect of things and less about the actual goings on of the S8D world, but oh well.

Prince at the 2004 Rock and Roll hall of Fame Ceremony

I was recently reading the latest Rolling Stone, which gives a run-down of this years Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th Year Anniversary Concert, and there were some interesting stories about past RRHF ceremonies – crazy speeches, crazy performances, crazy people etc…  and one of these mini stories caught my attention for some reason.  Apparently, Prince, the year they inducted George Harrison, was asked to play a solo on “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” –  much to the chagrin of Harrison’s widow.  Prince claims to have never heard the song until they sent him a recording of it to learn for the show – how this is possible I have no idea.  Anyway, Prince agrees to do it only because Tom Petty  will be playing on it as well and it has always been a dream of his to share the stage with Tom Petty – “Free Fallin’” is one of his favorite songs (!?) – again, I have no idea how “Free Fallin’” can be one of his favorite songs, but he’s never heard “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” undeniably one of The Beatles greatest songs.

Long story short, Prince kills it.  I’ve always known he was a talented guy, but he really surprised me with this.  He nails the feeling of the song completely, his performance is totally over-the-top-rock-and-roll and the way he throws his guitar into the air and storms off stage at the end is downright awesome – where does the guitar go!?  Here’s the YouTube clip for your enjoyment.
